Meatless Mondays for a Cool Planet

The idea of Meatless Mondays began as a campaign to encourage people to eat less meat as a means to lighten their impact on the environment and examine their food choices.  Today is Monday and we hope that you and your family embrace this idea as the effects of going veg even once a week are significant.  It turns out forgoing meat will have a greater impact on your carbon footprint than once thought.

According to the United Nations, livestock production contributes 18% of global emissions (more than all transportation combined). According to a “controversial” new study,  the figure may be closer to 51 percent.  The study, which was published by World Watch Magazine, put forth that the UN’s previous reports have underestimated the GHG (greenhouse gas) emissions from the billions of pigs, chickens, cows, and other animals that are raised and slaughtered in the U.S. and globally.

Meatless Mondays is a great opportunity to take what we are learning about meat production and climate change and commit direct action.  We are gaining momentum and growing a movement where every individual can feel empowered to make change.   Our appetites for meat and animal products have put an unnecessary strain on our planet and its resources, and now we are doing something about it. Meatless Mondays are huge and growing by the day, and are something you and your family can take part of together.  There are many helpful resources for delicious and affordable meatless meals. You can sign-up and receive free recipes and tips will be e-mailed to you weekly to make going meatless on Monday a breeze. Enjoy and  Happy Meatless Monday.
